BARBADOS TO TRINIDAD

The flight plan calls for the trip to Trinidad/ Tobago to last for 1hr and 15 min. At this point we were having a blast. Everything was back on track and we were feeling great. John and Looney spent the night in Santo Domingo and joined us the next day.

24 hours later started the long tedious process of going through customs. So far Custom has been the pain in our butts bar none. An hour after starting the process, we started toward the planes. It had been a wonderful trip so far and thought nothing could be worse. Little did we know the worst was yet to come. As we landed in Trinidad/ Tobago our spirits were high. As we taxied toward the terminal, the controllers ask us who our handler was. We looked at each other and Anthony stated we did not have one. We were instructed to taxi to number 7 on the ramp and wait for security. I won’t go into all of the details but I will tell you that the person in charge of Custom started to send us back where we came from if we did not have a handler. Needless to say we found one, and 5 hours later we loaded the vehicle to head for the hotel.

That night Anthony told us that he knew the mayor of San Fernando. However, he had no intention of contacting him. He felt they would plan too much for us. The next day we made our way to one the local malls to look for gifts. As Anthony and I were standing at one of the counters paying for some gifts, Anthony spotted someone. As we approached this person, who would it be but the Mayor of San Fernando? After the greetings, we were invited to the city council meeting the next day. A few hours later Anthony received another call from the former Mayor of San Fernando. He invited us to dinner that night and lunch after the city council meeting the next day at his Pub.

At the city council meeting we were made to feel very special for flying our planes that far. The remainder of the stay was the same. Everyone made us feel very special. The evening before we were to leave, we would have to put gas in the rental cars. A group of us proceeded to find a local station. I had no idea that James was driving a vehicle that was very low on gas. I need not tell you what happen next. Yes, that’s right, he ran out of gas! Looney, Bobby and Vergil had to push him about a block to the station.

We decided to leave early for the airport the next morning not knowing what to expect once we got there. To our surprise, the person we had hired was waiting and we were in and out of customs very quickly.

The next Stop would be Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
